Child of a Mexican mother and an American father is born in Mexico and spends early childhood there. Goes to an American military academy but is kicked out and returns to Mexico. Spends formative years in the 30's in the household of Diego Rivera and Frida with house guest Leon Trotsky. He eventually returns to the U.S. and becomes a successful author with political leanings and has to defend himself before the House Un-American Activities Committee.
