This is an unusual novel Don't laugh, but the main character & narrator is a dog, & the story is told from his point of view. He is quite a philosopher & observer of human behavior. He watches his family with empathy & insight, as they experience relationship issues, great love, & crisis. He is constantly frustrated, because, being a dog, he cannot speak to help them solve their problems. He looks forward to his next life, as a man, when his intelligence will be more effective in participating in worldly events. His master is a race car driver, (hence the title) but the theme is just a vehicle for this tale of personal drama. Everyone in my other book club was impressed & delighted with the book, & the discussion was enthusiastic.
