A romance of later life takes place in a very traditional English Village of the modern day. The villagers and their lifesytles are portrayed in a witty way, as is Major Pettigrew. It is a novel in the vein of Alexander McCall Smith, in that seemingly life is simple and slow, but actually a lot is going on. It is delightful and intelligent and has heart.
